Hayes is the Partner-In-Charge of Human Resources for EisnerAmper LLP, an accounting, consulting, and tax services firm based out of New York City. Hayes advises students to look beyond the entry-level position they are starting and to keep an open mind towards lateral moves that might increase their chances of upward mobility in the future.

>> My name is Hayes MacArthur. I'm the partner in charge of human resources for the firm of EisnerAmper, LLP. We are a professional service firm, one of the largest in the United States with approximately 1300 employees, 165 partners. Charged with some of the same things that my CEO is charged with, growing the firm profitably, maintaining a steady flow of employees coming into the firm that we can further develop and train and retain, and offering the best service possible to our clients. A busy day consists of a lot of meetings and conversations. We have a number of strategic planning initiatives that I am a part of and we follow up on most of these daily. Of the 21 major initiatives in the firm, probably 15 to 16 of them touch people somehow. And one of the great things about working in a professional services firm is that our equipment are our people. We produce hours of service for our clients. And when a company has to make investments in plant and equipment, we're making it in our people. And from a human resource perspective, that's a great environment to be in. We have an initiative to promote our people as quickly as possible. And it's one of the few industries where if you promote somebody, it's in everybody's best interest. So it's in the client's best interest because they get a smarter account consultant. It's in the employee's best interest because they get to work on better jobs, they get paid more, they learn more. And it's the firm's best interest because we can grow more quickly. I travel throughout most of our offices which now consists of 3 major hub offices in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. And as the head of human resources, I travel to all of them pretty much weekly now.
