Upper90 is a leading private credit firm that primarily lends to fintech, software, supply chain, media, and ecommerce businesses. Founded in 2018 by executives from Seamless-GrubHub and Goldman Sachs, the firm helps founders scale with less dilution and is backed by an LP base of 300 entrepreneurs that provide a competitive advantage in sourcing. The firm has grown AUM to $1.2B across ~50 portfolio companies. Industry leaders like Crusoe, Octane, Clutch, Filmrise, PayJoy and MoneyLion have secured growth capital from Upper90.

Position Overview

Upper90 is seeking an Investment Associate who will lead the investment screening and analysis of investment opportunities and will work closely with other members of the investment team to execute and monitor our positions. The Investment Associate will own the creation of financial models, ad hoc analyses, industry research, term sheets, presentations and other materials to support the due diligence and investment processes. Additionally, the Investment Associate will support the portfolio monitoring process and create analyses to inform portfolio composition. The Associate will have direct exposure to industry leaders in a flat organization.

Core Responsibilities

  • Investment Analysis & Research
    • Identify the key drivers of cashflow and enterprise value
    • Build models to sensitize the impact of key assumptions
    • Form independent views on an opportunity via primary research
    • Organize, lead and recap DD calls with industry experts including the Upper90 network
  • Deal Execution
    • Support senior investment professionals with analysis during terms negotiations
    • Perform analysis and stress tests to inform covenant levels and other triggers
    • Prepare term sheets and liaise with attorneys during legal drafting
    • Synthesize key findings in well articulated investment memoranda
  • Portfolio Monitoring
    • Maintain expert knowledge of portfolio companies, relevant macro events, and the competitive landscape
    • Prepare periodic updates on performance for the investment committee and LPs

Skills and Qualifications

  • 3-4 years of professional experience including 2 years of investment banking experience and 1+ year of investing experience, specifically in the analysis and structuring of private credit investments. Background in restructuring and exposure to early-stage equity investing are a plus.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to efficiently identify and synthesize the crux of complicated matters.
  • Resourcefulness and the ability to come to well-informed decisions without perfect information.
  • Passion for technology trends and an appreciation for both value and growth investing principles.
  • Process driven with a mind towards scalability and data-driven insights.
  • Bachelor’s degree demonstrating a strong academic and extracurricular track record.
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation is a plus.
