Job description
Job Purpose: Designs mechanical and structural components using Autodesk Inventor and Revit 3-D modeling software primarily while also utilizing 2-D Autocad software as needed. Provides general arrangement, structural, and shop drawings to fab shop and field crews. Manage project bill of material and generate detailed reports. Support project management and preconstruction teams as needed. Performs site and shop quality inspections as needed.
Primary Responsibilities (Grouped by Key Result Areas)
- Design Work
- Develops precise and accurate 3-D Inventor models utilizing proper functional constraints and fundamentally sound modeling practices.
- Confirms design fit/form/function and manufacturability
- Create, reference, and modify 2-D/3-D Autocad CAD files as needed
- Develop multiple design options/concepts quickly for design review discussions as-requested
- Demonstrate a high level of attention to detail
- Produces impromptu models for use as sales or communication tools as-requested.
- Works with Project Managers and Pre-Construction team to develop cost-feasible designs.
- Integrates designs from outside detailers, designers, and engineers and reviews them carefully for design conformance and system integration fit/function
- Diligently researches codes, standards, and design information to inform management and use in designs
- Create P&ID’s and PFD’s using Autodesk Plant 3D software
- Perform truck path analysis using Autodesk Vehicle Tracking software
- Drawing Creation & Review
- Creates general arrangement drawings using Autodesk Revit software
- Develops clear and concise structural and shop fabrication drawings in accordance with AISC standards and Trident Structures’ drawing standards
- Carefully reviews internal and external drawings for correctness and accuracy
- Creates drawings that display exceptional clarity and quality that clearly displays all of the details needed for end users (fab shop, field, etc.)
- Communication & Presentation
- Contributes to team effort and provides valuable input on projects, design reviews, and field issues
- Maintains timely, professional, and appropriate email, in-person, and phone correspondence with co-workers, customers, vendors and sub-contractors.
- Maintains an organized work space and schedule.
- Maintain professional presentation (communication, appearance, etc.)
- Project Management
- Manage bill of material parameters inside 3-D modeling software
- Generate clear and organized bill of material reports for fabricated and purchased items
- Consistently maintain a well-organized project folder with the latest up-to-date files stored in their proper location
- Clearly and concisely communicate with the project management team all project related needs, concerns, and deadlines on a regular basis
- Ensure design related tasks remain on schedule. Notify management if items are falling behind schedule in adequate amount of time for action to be taken to get back on schedule.
- Work professionally and efficiently with outside designers, detailers, and engineers to develop good designs and stay on schedule
- Technical Knowledge & Support
- Provides design, detailing, and technical support to the project management and pre-construction / sales teams as needed
- Develops professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Required
- Proficient Skills: Outlook, MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint required.
Preferred Abilities and Experience:
- Knowledge of AISC standards, processes, and detailing
- Experience with machining/welding practices and detailing
- Experience designing/detailing in a fabrication shop setting
- Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerances
- Knowledge of building construction and design
- Experience working with/designing conveyors, bucket elevators, diverters, and distributors
- Experience using SketchUp modeling software
- Experience rendering in Autodesk 3DS Max or other Autodesk rendering softwares
- EIT preferred
- 2 years or more industry experience successfully designing/modeling/drafting experience
- 3D Design Skills: Autodesk Revit, Inventor, AutoCad
